Background image not showing up in tile view

I would like to mimic the same layout as the “Tile View with Event Details Below” however the background images will not load. Only a block of color loads on each tile.

When I jump to another month and then go back to the current month, the background image loads, but I would like it to load when you first visit the page.

I’ve tried clearing my browser and wiping clean the cookies, but that doesn’t seem to fix the problem.

Do you know what might be causing this to happen?

Thank you!

      Hello,

Could you please try to turn off Jetpack or at least settings that may affect image loading?

Please also try the instructions mentioned in this documentation.

Great, thank you, that seemed to work!

I turned off some settings in Jetpack and now the images are loading. Does that mean the EventOn plugin is not compatible with Jetpack and we will not be able to activate those settings in the future?

      Just to double check.

      Thanks!

Unfortunately, EventON is not compatible with some Jetpack’s settings. Maybe you can find another plugin that provides lazy loading?

    • Andrew Knight Jan 21,2019 AT 5:19AM - Posted 6 years ago - #107679

It appears that the lazy loading setting is not the one that is incompatible with EventOn.

The Jetpack plugin had to be completely uninstalled in order for the images on the calendar to load.

Do you know which setting specifically is preventing the images from loading? Because we would like to keep Jetpack up and running on the site. (a screenshot of Jetpack’s current performance settings is attached)

It appears that the lazy loading setting is not the one that is incompatible with EventOn.

Ah yes sorry, you are correct. Lazy Loading also caused issues with EventON’s images for some customers. But in your case it look’s like that EventON’s images are not compatible at all with Jetpack.

Could you please try to turn off Jetpack’s options one by one to identify which one can cause this? I tried Enable site accelerator and also Image Performance but nothing.

      Hi Artem,

I tried turning off Jetpack’s options one by one as you suggested, however none of them seemed to fix the problem.

Could another plugin be preventing the images from loading? A list of plugins installed on our site is attached.

    • Artem Jan 22,2019 AT 5:19PM - Posted 6 years ago - #108141

      Hey Andrew,
Have you tried to disable those plugins one by one to give it a try?
That can be more useful that us looking over a screenshot to find out if it is required or not.

    • Andrew Knight Jan 23,2019 AT 11:24AM - Posted 6 years ago - #108304

      Hi Basilis,

Yes, I have tried disabling each plugin one by one, along with disabling the settings one by one within Jetpack. The only instance in which the images have loaded correctly is when I have completely disabled Jetpack.

Today I reached out to the WordPress team to see if there is a combination of other plugins we could use instead of Jetpack, however that is not possible as WordPress.com requires a Jetpack connection.

I find it extremely surprising that the EventOn plugin is not built to be compatible with Jetpack, a plugin that is virtually required by WordPress-powered sites.

The main reason for purchasing EventOn was to use its tile view feature. Is there no solution for EventOn’s images to load on a WordPress site that uses Jetpack? If not, we will have to use another plugin entirely.

      Hey Andrew,
There shouldnt be any issue with JetPack – honestly although the philosophy around JetBack is wired and strange.

In any case – I have forwarded the ticket to our main developer so he can review and check further.

    • Andrew Knight Jan 24,2019 AT 4:35AM - Posted 6 years ago - #108447

      Thank you, Basilis.

I look forward to hearing from your main developer so we can get this sorted out soon.

Thank you. Is there an estimation of when he might get back to us?

We would like to begin publicly sharing our calendar as soon as possible.

      You are welcome Andrew!

I know this issue has been raised and re-raised to your main developer, however it has been almost 2 weeks since this ticket was opened and it still hasn’t been resolved.

As we’ve been told, the issue shouldn’t be with JetPack but with EventOn. It would be really helpful to know if the developer has looked into it and still does not know what is causing this or if no one has troubleshooted it yet.

Any visibility on the solution would be very much appreciated.

    • Artem Jan 30,2019 AT 2:23PM - Posted 6 years ago - #109327

Yes Andrew he has looked into it.

Issues although with Conflicted plugins are working based on priorities and how many people have reported on the issue.

    • Andrew Knight Jan 31,2019 AT 11:32AM - Posted 6 years ago - #109403

      Hi Basilis,

Unfortunately this does not tell me much about when we can expect a solution. It sounds like it has been looked into and passed over because either there isn’t a fix, not enough people are having this same problem (which I would think other WordPress users who utilize Jetpack would also be having) or there is a solution but it will take time to sort out.

Is there anything else that we can try on our end to try and fix this, like debugging WordPress? Because quite frankly, if we don’t get it fixed soon, we will have to go with another calendar plugin.

    • Artem Jan 31,2019 AT 12:47PM - Posted 6 years ago - #109429

      Hi Andrew,
Yes unfortunately we cant give deadlines for something that we are woring to short it out – before we know how to short it out 100% correct.

      Hello EventOn Team,

Our website’s calendar is now full of events and ready to be shared with our readers: https://thebeyonder.co.uk/whats-on/

Ever since we downloaded your plugin, our vision has been to create a well-designed, user-friendly calendar for our community.

But as you can see, the images still do not load correctly. As you can imagine, this is extremely frustrating because we have paid for your service and expected any glitches like this to be addressed by your support team in a timely manner.

Please can you let us know if this is fixable? Not when or how, but if it is fixable. Because otherwise, your service has really just been a waste of time and resources.

Andrew please accept my deepest apologies for not getting in here to help you sooner.

Ok so this is a very strange situation that I am seeing for the first time out of all our 41,000 other eventON customers.

Take a look at the event page https://thebeyonder.co.uk/events/model-railway-exhibition/ event images are not loading.

We use wordpress functions to call the featured image URL and it seems the jetpack is doing something to images that it doesnt return image urls for the default wordpress image getting functions.

I would suggest you reach out to jetpack and see if they have any suggestions on this. Because its a 3rd party plugin conflict we can not do much about it.

Sorry I thought I would be able to fix your issue right now.

    • Andrew Knight Feb 11,2019 AT 8:16AM - Posted 6 years ago - #111005

      Hi Ashan,

That is strange that this was the first instance of the images not loading correctly.

The Jetpack team looked into it and saw that there was a Content Option called Display on pages that wasn’t enabled. So if anyone else comes across this problem in the future, they can try navigating to My Site > Customize > and check Display on pages. That fixed the problem for us.

Thank you for looking into it. We are very happy there was a solution and that they were able to sort it out for us.
