Categories

I’ve expanded the categories to accomodate all of our different church events (Marrieds, Singles, Campus, General) but how do I select the category for my event? I’d like to setup our site calendar so that you can choose a category and all the events will appear. I just got this so trying to get it set up accurately from the start. I have about 60 events I need to input and want to make sure I do it right.

Also, can we color code the categories so on a general calendar you can differentiate the different categories?

And lastly, how do I get a monthly standard grid style calendar to appear?

Overall this calendar seems exactly what we need, so thank you.
Best,
Rob

      Hello,

      1. Please check these guides on Event Types: https://docs.myeventon.com/documentations/confused-event-type-categories/ and https://docs.myeventon.com/documentations/how-to-use-event-types-to-do-more/

      2. If you go to wp-admin > Event > Event Type > Edit, you can select Color. Are you referring to this functionality: https://docs.myeventon.com/documentations/override-event-colors-event-type-colors/?

      3. Could you send us a screenshot? Please try this shortcode:

Thank you that was a big help. Last issue (well not issues) but is there a way to have a sort by category button on the top so people can click on “Marrieds Ministry” and all the married events will show up, likewise for Campus Ministry, all their events will pop up.

I have to say, this is a great plugin. So far very satisfactory.

Wow thank you for the detailed explanation. I’ve only inputted February, and I think I got confused with setting up the categories correctly. I’ll be watching this several times as I try to wrap my head around this.  I think my mistake was that I inputed those categories under the EventType Category “Congregational Events” rather then placing each one in the correct EventType category.

So again, I create the EventType Category and under each of those I need to create n actual category for each EventType?

I just want to make sure before I create a years worth of events then I have to change them.

But thank you sooo much for the detailed video!

Lets pretend we have a calendar promoting different events (to make it easier to explain)

Event type 1: we would call this Event Category
      which is made up of

      1. Cocktail Party
      2. Seminar
      3. Trade show
      4. Conference
      5. etc

Event Type 2: we would call this Dress regulation

      1. Black tie
      2. Formal
      3. Jeans
      4. Beach wear

Event Type 3: we would call this Price

      • Free events
      • Under $10
      • $11-$20
      • $21+

Event Type 4: We would call this Age

      • Pre School
      • age 5-6
      • age 7-8
      • High school
      • Adults Only

Event type 5: we could call this relationships

      • Single & ready to meet your future partner
      • Single and looking for friends (so not a dating event)
      • Married

and so on and so on- hope that made a bit more sense

so with the above info- check out the video below to see how things work

Ok, that’s a little more detailed then I realized. I went back in and added the code to my functions.php file to allow more categories.

If I understand it correctly (shooting in the dark), I have all the EventType Categories set. Now I go into each event a create the standard category for an event.

So for instance I have a Soulmates Devotional for 2/19/2021 and I’m in the event, then on the right side I expand the dropdown that has all my different ministries, this one being Marrieds Events. Under that category I created a category Marrieds and selected it.

Now on the calendar page I haven’t messed with the shortcode you added so when I click on the first sort filter a dropdown opens that have Congregational Events, Marrieds Events and Teen Events (haven’t edited any more then these three).  When I click on Marrieds Events another drop down opens that says ALL and MARRIEDS. When I click MARRIEDS all the married events show up.

Am I doing that correct? Seems like I have an extra step with the ALL and MARRIEDS dropdown.

In either case it seems that I can go through my events for February and categorize them accordingly and use the sort shortcode you made do the work.

      Thanks for being patient.

No you are not doing it correct I don’t think- well, there is no correct way- There my way or the way you are doing it 🙂

So Marrieds should really be relationship (or a better word ) a word that describes their relationship status

which would have Married, single, single dating etc  which drop down after you click relationship

See video below Moohoohahaha (also included in the video is how to use locations within that filter section

Ok, I think that makes sense. I think its at a point right now where those in charge will like the end result. Much thanks for your individual support with these videos!
