It should work completely fine. You can go back to EventON 2.6.15 and then update again but with my suggestions below.

Before update you need to enable EventON > Do not delete eventon settings & data when EventON is uninstalled option. Or you can use FTP Method.

Update guide:

To update eventon to latest version: If you are unable to do autoupdate, you can go to codecanyon your account > download and get the latest eventon version as zip file. Then you can go to your website, deactivate old eventon, activate (Do not delete eventon settings & data when EventON is uninstalled) from eventon settings, delete old eventon, install new one and activate. At the moment, we do not have test license.

However, what you can do is deactivate the license on other installation when you are developing the site and then remove it from the dev site and use the same on the live site when ready.
