It seems that, regardless the user capability settings, users can only edit their own events from the front-end event manager.
Surely the admin role should be able to edit all other events, event from the front-end event manager?

No the admin can edit from the backend or
in myeventon>>>settings>>>>event top- you can turn on the front end edit button
so for admin eyes only on any calendar there is a pencil icon to the right of the title and you can edit from the calendar
as for men or women please clarify what you need as I cannot see your site nor can I know what other plugins you are using I have no idea
