i use xtheme pro on my sites however there is a strong learning curve to that theme

I’d recommend staying away from Avarda theme 

you can limit how many events are shown and have a button to load more if needed

you can add this to your shortcode

event_count=”24″ show_limit=”yes”

you will want to add this

.evo_eventon_live_now_section .evo_eventon_now_next {

    margin-top: 0px;

    padding: 15px 5px;

}

and play around with all the numbers in BOLD to get the desired size
